Express Entry

Express Entry is a system to organize and process applications for people who wish to immigrate to Canada and acquire Canadian permanent residence. Express Entry is used to process the majority of Canadian immigration applications for skilled and qualified workers who want to come to Canada.

Express Entry is an application management system for three major Canadian economic immigration programs:

  1. Federal Skilled Worker(FSW)
  2. Federal Skilled Trades(FST)
  3. Canadian Experience Class(CEC)

If you are eligible to apply to any of these programs, you can submit an Expression of Interest (EOI), often referred to as a profile, to the Express Entry system. Once your profile is submitted, you are automatically assigned a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score.

Approximately every two weeks, the Canadian government conducts a draw where they issue invitations to apply (ITAs) for Canadian permanent residence to the highest-ranking profiles in the pool of Express Entry candidates.

Upon receiving an ITA, candidates can then submit a complete application for Canadian permanent residence, which will be processed within four to six months.

Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)

Provincial nomination offers a valuable route to Canadian permanent residence.

The Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs) allow Canadian provinces and territories to nominate individuals who wish to immigrate to Canada and who are interested in settling in a particular province.

With more than 80 provincial immigration streams, discovering the Canadian immigration pathway that best suits you may be challenging.

Each Canadian province and territory (except Nunavut and Quebec) has its own unique Provincial Nominee Program. Each PNP has at least one immigration stream that is aligned with the federal Express Entry immigration selection system.

Provincial nominations issued under these Express Entry-aligned streams are known as ‘enhanced nominations’ and award Express Entry candidates an additional 600 Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points.

Tourist visa

A visitor visa (also called a temporary resident visa) is an official document that will stick in your passport. It shows that you meet the requirements needed to enter Canada.

Most travellers need a visitor visa to travel to Canada. You may also need one if you’re transiting through a Canadian airport on your way to your final destination.

You can apply for a visitor visa online or on paper.

How long you can stay

Most visitors can stay for up to 6 months in Canada.

At the port of entry, the border services officer may allow you to stay for less or more than 6 months. If so, they’ll put the date you need to leave by in your passport. They might also give you a document, called a visitor record, which will show the date you need to leave by.

 Sponsoring spouses and children

One of the goals of the Canadian Immigration Act is to make it possible for family members to come together. In this way, a person who is a permanent resident or Canadian citizen can apply for Canadian residency as a sponsor for some first-class family members, including the spouse of his or her children and the children of his or her parents’ spouse and grandparents.

 Sponsoring parents and grandparents

Parental sponsorship is one of the most complex immigration cases in Canada, which can confuse applicants in most cases. This class has its own special conditions for receiving permanent residency in Canada, the most important of which are the time of action and the sponsor’s income
